Is this a great book? No! But if you enjoyed Football Italia and are immersed in the sport then there’s value in reading it.
Author Jonathan Grade worked behind the scenes on the fondly remembered show, one that existed at a time when Italy’s domestic league was the best one going. Grade talks us through the seasons, reeling off scores, scorers and league standings as well as offering insights into off-field activities, ones related to the clubs as well as his work. Truth betold, I wouldn’t have minded a bit more depth but to be fair, Grade does detail many things. It just that even for somebody as in to football as me, constantly informing the reader of Milan and Juventus etc scores, got a little repetitive and blurry.
And that’s that really. It’s an okay read and like I say, if you liked Italian football in the 90s then I’m sure that it’ll resonate. If you do read it, enjoy!
