Taking up Residence

My youngest daughter and I had a pleasant surprise when we headed into the garden on a sunny morning recently. We had our first newt sighting in our newer second pond, a fine adult specimen it was too!

Newt activity has continued to increase in the main pond as the weather has become warmer and warmer but it’s fascinating to see newts take up residence in the same pond as the fish. Maybe the bigger pond just isn’t big enough for all of them!

I did of course have a sad event in my second pond…

Hopefully, it’s nothing to worry about and it was just that fish’s time.

On a more positive note, we’ve since spotted our first frog in the second pond too. Like the newt, it was fully grown. The remaining fish seem content and a little bolder too, whilst the algae issues seem to have settled down. Also in pond two, a couple of extremely active pond snails like to put on a performance!

Look out for more aquatic updates in the future!
