Cricket: A Global Game… Finally!

I was absolutely delighted to read confirmation that the ODI Cricket World Cup has been expanded to fourteen teams. Meanwhile, the T20 World Cup has increased to twenty teams. This is fantastic news!

On this blog, I’ve so far refrained from pitching my plans to restructure international cricket. It’s pretty in-depth! You can always visit my old cricket blog if you like…

This news had been on the cards for a while and was confirmed a few weeks ago. It’s great to see the ICC making this move and understandably using the Twenty20 format to spread/develop the game.

Teams like Singapore, Nepal and Papua New Guinea as well as European sides such as Denmark and Italy, have a viable chance of qualifying for the T20 World Cup. I’ve got no time for the narrow-minded attitude of suggesting that this will result in lop-sided matches. Long term this move is great for the game and can make Cricket World Cups genuinely that!

Disclaimer: This is actually quite old news but this post kept getting knocked back amongst my many scheduled scripts!
